This seems to be turning into an entirely Lenten-based blog! Another year has snuck by, and Lent is nearly upon us once more. I want to shake up the ‘rules’ a bit from last year, but I trip up on dairy. We currently get our milk from Mossgiel Farms by way of Mills Milk delivery. The milk is fantastic and I know Mossgiel cares about the cows and the land. Personally, I feel better about getting local milk than milk alternatives shipped from abroad. So I think we will keep the milk (largely for tea to be honest) but cut out other dairy such as cheese and yoghurt for the duration of Lent (Sunday notwithstanding). We will continue to eat meat only on Sunday, and fish on Friday, with Sunday leftovers allowed to be repurposed on Monday for the sake of preventing waste.

I am looking forward to really diving into Nistisima by Georgina Hayden, a cookbook centred on Greek Orthodox fasting. It came out either just after or towards the end of Lent, and while I’ve dabbled in it a bit, it will really come in handy this season. Winter usually drags on, but I feel it flew by this year. The snowdrops and crocuses popping up feel a bit bittersweet, but I can't complain about there still being light by 4:30PM!
